Wow, 2018 came in with a bang. The beginning of this year has been filled with meetings and constant busyness… it’s like a rollercoaster ride that won’t slow down, but it’s a good kind of feeling. Even though it’s been busy, my mindset is that January was a trial month and February is when the work really starts!
So, with all the craziness this year has already brought and is sure to still bring, I’ve put together some tips on how to live your best life in 2018!
Time can be a tricky thing and managing it can be even trickier. One thing I like to use daily is a To-Do list which will help you plan what you need to accomplish during your day. Another great way to manage your time is keeping an agenda. Personally, I like the Passion Planner agenda because it lets me not only plan my work life but also my personal life goals for the entire year as well. Color coding is another key way to keep your life organized. In my agenda, I have assigned a color for each aspect of my life… personal, work, exercise, appointments, etc. I set aside a time every Sunday to plan out my week and it has truly changed my life.
Establish a Routine:
Establishing a routine can be a game changer on many levels. It can impact your health, your relationships, and your work. Something as simple as getting out of bed an hour earlier can help you be more productive during your day. While you have that extra hour to get ready in the morning be sure to make your bed. It is said that people who make their bed in the morning live more successful lives. Take time to make a healthy breakfast because it’s the most important meal of the day and fuels your body for success!
Budget / Save:
Dreaming of that magical vacation to the Bahamas? Want to buy that dream house? How are you going to do that if you don’t start saving? This year I made the decision to start living “within my needs.” What does that mean, you ask? It means to pay my bills and buy what little I truly need but not to spend it on that expensive shopping spree at Ulta on all that makeup I really didn’t need. You see I started watching my spending last year and I realized that I have a lot of unnecessary spending on things I really don’t need…then I go through phases where I clean my closet and makeup drawers out and give away half of it. So I said no more and started watching every dollar and penny I spend. So far, my savings account is growing like a weed! I encourage everyone to try this!
You never know what someone is going through. People are good at masking their feelings, I’m one of them. Never assume that just because someone is smiling and seems happy all the time that they aren’t going through a tough time. Smile and be kind to everyone you meet, hold the door for the person behind you, say thank you and please, tip graciously at restaurants, pay it forward in the drive-thru because you never know if that one act of kindness could change someone’s entire day or outlook on life.
There’s nothing more exhilarating or clearing of the mind than to de-clutter and deep clean. Repeat after me “If I haven’t worn it or used it within the last 6 months it has to go.” That’s the rule and you must stick to it! Get yourself a box of trash bags and start piles of keep, donate and trash and before you know it you will be able to see the back of your closet again! For me, I have started capsule wardrobes and I wish I had done this sooner because it’s so much easier than having a closet full of clothes you never wear! (Let me know if you want more on this).
You can’t be the best version of you if you’re not healthy. Find some way to get your body moving every day! Walk, run, bike, hike, do yoga… Just move! Drinking water is also very important for your body daily. For some, this can be hard but once you get started your body will crave it. Be kind to your body and it will be kind to you.
Being productive and working hard is important but there is such a thing as burnout. You can work every day and reach you goals and have that drive to make things happen but you also need that downtime where you can turn your brain off and just let go and spend some time with friends. Having a social life is extremely important to living your best life. At least twice a month go out to eat, see a movie or just have a girl’s night in with your best friend(s).
The most important part of all of this is to just be true to yourself. You can’t live your best life if you’re not being yourself. Do not compromise your dreams and goals for anyone. Remember, you're special and there's only one you in the entire universe!
